Frostburg, MD– The Allegany Farmers Market Association’s 2023 regular season closes as Winter Markets continue in Frostburg on Fridays in November at City Place. For December through February, the association will host Saturday markets on alternating weeks. The full schedule and vendor list can be found on the website at www.alleganyfarmersmarkets.com.
After five years at Mountain City Traditional Arts, Frostburg’s Winter Farmers Market will expand to City Place. The Winter Market is an important outlet for local farmers in the region, and the expansion to City Place speaks to the success of MCTA’s efforts to support local food access. This year will see over a dozen farmers and vendors at the 10 markets to be held between November and February of 2024.
New market location invites community participation. One benefit of relocating to City Place is the opportunity to invite additional community activities in the larger venue. The association hopes to engage local businesses, nonprofits, musicians, and educational groups in supporting family-friendly activities during market hours. The Opening Market of the Winter Season on November 3rd will feature a Raffle to win a one-of-a-kind handmade market mug from local artist Alexandra Braun. Braun co-runs Cumberland's Three Star Arts Collective, and her work is beloved by many in the region. The custom mugs were commissioned to celebrate farmers and commemorate 30 years of Allegany Farmers Markets.
The Allegany Farmers Market Association was founded over 30 years ago and continues to grow. Market vendors represent craft and farm producers from throughout the region, including vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, honey, maple syrup, baked goods, potted plants, soaps/lotions, cut/dried flowers, crafts/candles/jewelry, hemp-based wellness products, and other local and handmade goods.
